Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about BogeyHunter

General

What is BogeyHunter?

BogeyHunter is an AI-powered golf coaching platform with two products: a desktop swing analysis system for sim bays, and a mobile app for on-course voice coaching and range practice. Both are powered by Coach Mulligan, an AI golf coach that runs entirely on your device.

Who is Coach Mulligan?

Coach Mulligan is your AI golf coach — a patient, experienced golf instructor who gives you personalized feedback based on your actual swing data. He remembers what you've worked on, adapts to your skill level, and guides you through a structured 5-phase coaching curriculum. Learn more about Coach Mulligan →

Is BogeyHunter free?

The desktop platform is free during alpha. The mobile app pricing will be announced closer to public launch. There are no in-app purchases, no advertising, and no hidden fees during the alpha period.

Do I need an internet connection?

Only for the initial setup (downloading the installer or the AI model). After that, everything runs locally on your device. You can use BogeyHunter on the course, at the range, or in your sim bay with no internet connection.

Privacy & Data

Does BogeyHunter send my data to the cloud?

No. All AI processing, swing analysis, and coaching conversations happen entirely on your device. Your data stays on your phone or computer unless you choose to share it — for example, sharing a progress card with a friend or exporting a swing report. There are no servers — BogeyHunter is fully on-device software. Read our privacy policy →

Do I need to create an account?

No. There are no accounts, no sign-ups, and no login required. Your profile and data are stored locally on your device.

What happens to my data if I delete the app?

All data is permanently removed when you uninstall BogeyHunter. There are no servers and no backups — BogeyHunter is fully on-device software with no external connectivity.

Mobile App

What iPhones are supported?

BogeyHunter requires iPhone 12 or later running iOS 18+. Course Mode (voice caddie) works on all supported devices. Range Mode (swing analysis) works best on iPhone 14 Pro and later. See full device compatibility →

How does Course Mode work?

Open Course Mode, and BogeyHunter detects your course via GPS. Talk to Coach Mulligan through your AirPods — ask for distance, club recommendations, or strategy advice. He uses your actual club distances and adjusts for wind. Your phone stays in your pocket the entire round.

How does Range Mode work?

Mount your iPhone on a tripod at the range. BogeyHunter uses your phone's camera and on-device AI to analyze your swing in real time, tracking metrics like hip rotation, shoulder turn, tempo, and more. Coach Mulligan delivers feedback after each swing and remembers what you worked on in past sessions.

Does it work with AirPods?

Yes. BogeyHunter works with AirPods, Beats, or any Bluetooth headphone. You can use the media button (AirPods stem tap) to activate voice input without touching your phone.

How many courses does it cover?

BogeyHunter includes data for over 11,500 US golf courses, bundled directly in the app. No internet needed for course detection.

Desktop Platform

What hardware do I need?

A Windows PC with an NVIDIA RTX GPU (12GB+ VRAM recommended) and USB cameras. BogeyHunter supports a 2-camera or 3-camera setup for swing analysis. See full requirements →

Do I need expensive cameras?

No. BogeyHunter works with affordable USB cameras starting around $65-80 each. You don't need professional or industrial cameras — standard high-speed USB cameras work great. See camera recommendations →

Does it work with my launch monitor?

BogeyHunter works with popular launch monitors including Garmin Approach R10, Rapsodo MLM2PRO, FlightScope Mevo, SkyTrak, Uneekor, and Foresight. It combines ball flight data with camera-based swing analysis for complete coaching. See compatible monitors →

Can multiple golfers use the same setup?

Yes. Each golfer gets their own profile with separate sessions, metrics history, and coaching memory. Switch between golfers from the profile selector.

Coaching

What does Coach Mulligan actually measure?

On desktop with a full camera setup, Coach Mulligan tracks over 40 biomechanical metrics — including spatial depth measurements from multi-camera analysis. He measures hip rotation, shoulder turn, X-factor, tempo, lag angle, spine angle, sway, thrust, lift, and more. On iPhone, he tracks over 20 metrics with spatial pose analysis and hand tracking on iPhone 12 and later. See the full metric breakdown →

How is this different from other golf apps?

Three things set BogeyHunter apart: (1) AI vision coaching — Coach Mulligan actually watches your swing video, not just numbers. (2) Multi-camera spatial analysis — true spatial measurements from calibrated camera pairs, not flat angle estimates. (3) Predictive coaching — identifies developing patterns and compensation effects before they become habits. Plus, everything runs on your device — no cloud, no data sharing.

Does it replace a real golf instructor?

BogeyHunter is a practice companion, not a replacement for professional instruction. Coach Mulligan is great for daily practice feedback, tracking your progress, and working on specific drills between lessons. Many golfers use AI coaching alongside their instructor to accelerate improvement.

What coaching methodology does it use?

Coach Mulligan draws from a professional coaching knowledge base informed by biomechanical research, with a structured 5-phase progression: Setup, Rotation, Timing, Sequence, and Scoring. He detects 8 swing phases frame-by-frame, prescribes specific drills, and predicts which areas need attention next. Learn more →

Does it work with Apple Watch?

Yes. The Apple Watch companion app detects swings from your wrist, so you can trigger captures without touching your phone. It also tracks heart rate during practice for fatigue detection. Coaching feedback appears on your wrist after each swing.

Can I sync between desktop and mobile?

Yes. Cross-platform sync lets you review your sim bay sessions on your iPhone, or send range sessions to your desktop for deeper analysis with the full multi-camera system.

Do I need all 3 cameras?

Two cameras give you over 40 metrics including spatial depth measurements. The overhead camera adds rotation and alignment metrics for the most comprehensive analysis. A single camera provides over 25 core metrics. See camera recommendations →
