Mobile Requirements
iPhone compatibility and device requirements
The short version: iOS 18 or later and about 4 GB of free storage. Range Mode (camera swing analysis) needs iPhone 12 or later. Course Mode on older iPhones that run iOS 18 is expected to work; coaching responses may be slower.
iPhone Compatibility
| Tier | Devices | Range Mode Experience |
|---|---|---|
| Optimal | iPhone 15 Pro, 15 Pro Max, 16 series (including 16e), 17 series, iPhone Air | Best experience — fastest analysis, spatial pose, hand tracking, all 20+ metrics |
| Recommended | iPhone 14 Pro, 14 Pro Max, 15, 15 Plus | Full analysis with spatial pose and hand tracking |
| Supported | iPhone 13 Pro/Pro Max, 14, 14 Plus | All metrics including spatial pose |
| Minimum | iPhone 12 series, iPhone 13, 13 mini, SE (3rd gen) | All metrics available including spatial pose. Slower analysis; coaching responses may be shorter. |
| Not Supported | iPhone 11 and older, SE (2nd gen) | Range Mode not available. Course Mode expected to work; coaching responses may be slower. |
Why These Requirements?
Range Mode runs three things simultaneously: high-speed camera capture, real-time swing analysis, and the AI coaching model. Newer iPhones have faster chips and more memory, which means faster analysis and smoother performance.

Range Mode Setup
- Tripod or phone mount — phone must be stationary
- Distance: 6-10 feet from golfer, full body in frame
- Angle: Position the phone face-on or down-the-line; both work
- Lighting: Well-lit indoor or outdoor. Avoid backlit situations.
- Orientation: Portrait mode (app locks to portrait)
Capture options and audio cues are described in How It Works.
Apple Watch Companion
The optional BogeyHunter Watch app adds wrist-based features — see the Mobile overview for the full list.
